The total investment in adult and older people’s mental health services in England in 2010/11 was £7.19 billion.
Of this investment 77 per cent (£5.57 billion) was reported to be with statutory providers, 22 per cent (£1.56 billion) with non-statutory providers, and 1 per cent with local authorities.
Market structure, participation and concentration vary by the type of service and region.
The report highlights a number of issues for the Department of Health, NHS Commissioning Board and wider health service to address.
